This book has caught a lot of press in the US following the authors admition to "creating" some of the facts. However, it is 400 pages of grueling drug and alcohol rehab. We are privy to all information, emotional and physical for the full six weeks of rehab. The story is told in a quick, dialog style, with not much attention paid to grammar or syntax.
I was skeptical of the quickness that James reaches the end of his rehab, and the blase way that he describes how he will stay clean. I wasn't sold, I don't believe that you can be as bad off as he described in the beginning and achieve sobriety with mental determination - but who am I to judge.
